Hobo Clown, Emmett Kelly

Oil on 6x6" panel.
One of the greatest clowns was Emmett Kelly. As a boy he grew up in the mid-west with a talent for drawing and an ambition to be an artist. He stared his clowning career around 1917 Kelly had a proper easel and used his drawing skills as part of his circus act. My kind of clown. I'll have to add this portrait to my artist homage series.

Hi Rachel,
The clown paintings are all wonderful and seem to be the perfect subject matter for your spectacularly expressive talents.
Sincerely,
Gary.

Hi Gary,
Thank you, I love circus imagery. My grandfather was a clown for many years with Hagenbecker-Wallace. Maybe it's in my blood? Yikes.
