Tweezing

SOLD
oil on 6"x6" panel.
"Tweezing" is a commission I completed in one pass last night. The photo was taken by my friend Pat Bitton when she was visiting Peru recently. The girl in the painting is riding the bus as she treats her eyebrows. Not shown in the painting and barely in photo is a small mirror in her left hand.  Maybe I should have put it in?

Hi Rachel,
No need. At first look, without thinking about it, I saw the mirror in her hand. It was a classic case of the viewer completing the work. She would HAVE to have a mirror to do such a job. In all my years, I've never seen a woman perform this chore without one.
No matter what my eyes saw, (or didn't) my brain had a memory of what was necessary and told me it was there.
After reading your story about the painting, of course I immediately examined it again and would still swear in a court of law, that the mirror is clearly evident.
Have a nice weekend, Rachel.
Sincerely,
Gary.
