Oil on 12"x14" panel. Painted en plein air. I have currently applied for a residency which, if I am selected will focus on the high dessert landscape, this led to the realization that I have never posted some of my favorite plein air studies, so for the next couple weeks I'll be sharing them here. 'Rocks and Spires' is a place in Yosemite National Park. In 2006 I got my first opportunity to paint in Yosemite with several other plein air painters from my community. I was drawn to these two spires in particular, I saw them as a married couple, they seemed to posses an eternal quality in their union. How long have they been standing side by side and what have they witnessed over time? I have a reverence for rocks like these. I can imagine how important they must've been to the native people.
